This week was about posing the figure, we observed the importance of leading lines within the initial flow of a figure, ignoring details such as silhouette or accurate muscle mass. Gesture drawings with a focus on the leading lines was the first activity, before moving on to more thumbnailing again.
Gesture drawing my beloved <3
I had an easier time thumbnailing this week as I felt I was more warmed up, having already done a page and a half of gesture drawing. This time I came up with a few ideas and angles I wanted to explore further, one of which I did a larger rough sketch for.
The aspect of my character I wanted to explore is her love for food. She loves to cook for those around her and provide for them. Her dream in life is to just have a little kitchen, full of her favourite ingredients and people to take care of. This dream is the thumbnail I felt most drawn to, her relaxing in her kitchen, full of warm, soft light. Small but not claustrophobic.
As an afterthought I experimented with adding my other character to this mix, it comes with the drawback of the main sitter’s gaze no longer being directed at the camera but adds more life to the space and illustrates the dream more effectively. To make a final decision about whether to include the secondary sitter or not I will have to push both of these thumbnails further and refine them further.
